Q.
I know some DVDs have Easter eggs buried within, but how do I know if a certain disc has any of these secret clips?
A.
?Easter eggs? are hidden features on movie discs, (like outtakes, secret messages, visual inside jokes or a nod to another movie) and are usually underpublicized to add to the allure. Many Easter eggs on a DVD are typically revealed by using the remote control to select certain objects on menu screens or by pressing the navigational areas in certain directions.
Fortunately, if you do not have time to experiment with each new DVD you play, others seem to have the time and inclination to ferret out the hidden treats left by the disc?s creators. Many sites devoted to new DVD releases (or just Easter eggs themselves) keep a running list of these buried treasures online. The DVD Review site, HiddenDVDEasterEggs.com and DVD Talk? are just a few examples. You can also find sites devoted to Easter eggs on discs from specific studios like Pixar.
Digital Easter eggs have been around for years and have also turned up nestled in software, video games and operating systems. The Easter Egg Archive has more than 14,000 eggs listed, as well as a Frequently Asked Questions page on the topic.
