Communications Director

SEIU Local 615 is a progressive and dynamic union with 18,000 building service workers. The Communications Director is a key member of the Local 615 senior staff; they will be responsible for developing and implementing the union?s internal and external communications program, working closely with the local?s leadership team.

Responsibilities:

? Directing the union?s media outreach program, including developing a proactive strategy and message, writing and editing press releases and other materials, building relationships with reporters, responding to inquiries, planning events, training member and staff spokespeople, and handling any paid advertising.
? Providing communications support for contract, organizing, and legislative campaigns.
? Overseeing member communications, including newsletters, leaflets, and direct mail ? and training local organizers and representatives to upgrade the quality of all written communications with workers.
? Supervising any consultants that may be needed.

Minimum requirements:

? Commitment to progressive social change.
? Bachelor?s degree (or equivalent) and proven communications, campaign, or advocacy experience.
? Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills.
? Proven ability to execute external and internal communications programs.
? Freedom to work irregular hours, including weekends, as needed.
? Previous experience with the labor movement or other advocacy or public interest organizations preferred.
? Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, additional fluency in Portuguese a plus.
